On Friday night (March 18), the first night of Rolling Loud’s two-day SXSW takeover kicked off with performances from some of the hottest rising stars in rap, as well as a headlining set from one of the genre’s most exciting showmen.
Presented by RapTV, the Rolling Loud showcase, which took place at Austin’s iconic Stubb’s Waller Creek Amphitheater, was filled to the brim with a raucous crowd of fans looking to catch their favorite artists live onstage.
Boasting a diverse lineup of performers, Rolling Loud SXSW included sets from Monaleo, Sparoh, Babyface Ray, Dro Kenji, Digital Nas, Mike Dimes, Duke Deuce, and more, all of whom kept the vibes at a high. As the night wound down, DJ OG Chase B rocked the house with a medley of jams, amping up attendees for the crescendo that was headliner Sheck Wes’ performance. Running through hits like his 2018 smash, “Mo Bamba,” as well as more recently released material, the Harlem rep didn’t disappoint, manning the stage like a madman possessed while bringing his uptown swagger to the Lone Star state.
The aroma of marijuana and Texas barbecue permeated throughout the evening, drinks were consumed, and the turn-up was real, making the event and the experience a festive one for all.
For night two (March 19), those same aromas weaved through a larger crowd than the night before. An audience of all ages and backgrounds gathered on the dusty terrain to wrap up their festival weekend with a lively showcase. Texas crooner Don Toliver headlined the show, with the stage set by standout showings from Bbymutha, Trae The Truth, Icewear Vezzo, SSGKobe, Jasiah, and more.
