Hip-Hop heads joined together last night (March 2) to celebrate The DA.I.S.Y. Experience in honor of late emcee David “Trugoy The Dove” Jolicoeur of De La Soul.
The Amazon Music event showcased an emotional, impromptu performance from De La Soul, in which the remaining members gave fans a live rendition of “Stakes is High,” “Potholes in my Lawn,” and “Me Myself and I.” In solidarity, the group was supported on stage by Hip-Hop peers including Black Thought, Chuck D, Talib Kweli, comic Dave Chappelle, and more. Giving fans what they want, Common performed “The Bizness” with De La Soul and Queen Latifah delivered an unexpected performance of her classic “Ladies First” with Monie Love.
The Originals (D-Nice, Stretch Armstrong, Clark Kent, and Rich Medina) kept the room rocking all night as the supergroup curated a DJ set dedicated to De La’s legacy. Amid paying respect to the life and legacy of Trugoy, the night was also a celebration for the long-awaited arrival of De La Soul’s music on streaming services.
