Beyonce’s Coachella 2018 performance (aka BeyChella) was the stuff of legend. For two hours, she proved why she’s deserving of the Queen Bey title, and now fans wanting to relive the moment will have the chance.
Balmain announced the college-inspired clothing line will be released at their Paris flagship store this Friday (July 13). Proceeds from the merchandise will go to the United Negro College Fund to help students of color attend college.
Balmain creative director Olivier Rousteing spoke with Pret-a-Reporter and said the clothes “will long remain in my generation’s collective memory.”
“I can say today, with absolute confidence, that collaborating with Beyonce on her Coachella concerts is destined to be one of the most important and treasured memories of my career. Why? Because Beyonce,” Rousteing said in a statement. “She’s a goddess, blessed with an incredibly beautiful voice and a moral vision to match … Her level of obsessive perfectionism matches mine, so we loved poring over everything — literally everything — together.”
Rousteing revealed he worked with Beyonce for months to craft the symbols used in her Coachella 2018 performance and notes that the charity line is an overdue I.O.U to historically black colleges or universities.
“[We] need to repay an obvious debt for the inspiration we received from [HBCUs’] signature spirit and legacy.”
The items go on sale from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. EST on Friday, July 13, and then at other Balmain boutiques, Harrods and Barneys New York.
