In the newest commercial for his Classic Leather Reebok sneakers, Compton MC Kendrick Lamar performs an inspirational spoken word poem. The 30-second ad (shot by “Alright” director Colin Tilley) features the rapper strutting around an empty mansion, while his voice can be heard discussing how he uses self-expression to stay true to himself.
“From the very heart of me, belief becomes action and no distractions will take my eyes off the prize,” he begins. “Greatness is my goal, but there is failure on the way. Full of insecurity, self hate, and doubt. But what I can’t control can’t confine me. And what I can’t do can’t stop me. This is how I express myself, not how I follow others expectations but how I stay true.”
On his partnership with Reebok, Lamar says the shoe company has a history of helping kids discover their potential.
“I saw what the brand was doing, and I wanted to be a part of it and make it even stronger. It’s as simple as that. Kids that listen to my music are looking for inspiration. It’s important that I continue that message in anything I represent.”
