One of the most successful rappers and businessmen of the last twenty years, it’s more than stating the obvious to say that Jay Z is as wealthy as wealthy can get. He couldn’t have said it better than he did on Kanye West’s “Diamonds from Sierra Leone” when he said, “I’m not a businessman, I’m a business, man.” From his music to his basketball team, streaming service, beauty products, champagne, and clothing lines, Mr. Carter has no problem being able to spend thousands like it was nothing when it comes to what he wears. While we might not be worth over half-a-billion, there’s no reason we can’t also look just as fresh as Jay Z.
Luckily, Jay has his own clothing company, Rocawear, that pretty much sells the Jay Z brand of style. The basics like black jeans, Roc Nation graphic tees, classic button-down’s, and varsity jackets can be picked up here no problem. While Jay often wears $700 Givenchy t-shirts and Tom Ford suits, there’s no reason why we have to spend so much to get the same look. Like the suit he wore to his Carnegie Hall performances (photographed above), you can show up dressed to the nine’s as well for a fraction of that Tom Ford label price.
When it comes to dressing like Hov however, the key is in the accessories. Sporting limited edition Air Jordan’s and watches coming close to $5 million a piece, Jay Z’s accessory game might be beyond our spending limit, but lucky for us, Nike and Rocawear have alternatives just as fine as Hov’s collection. Jay is also apparently a big fan of Stance socks, as he says in “F.U.T.W.,” “This ain’t grey sweat suits and white tube socks / This is black leather pants and a pair of Stance socks.”
No Jay Z outfit would be complete however, without his Yankees cap and a pair of sunglasses. “All black everything” might be Jay’s biggest fashion statement, but if there’s one staple accessory, it’s his Ray-Ban Wayfarer’s. If you really want to look like Hov himself, just never take these two items off.
