Kanye West is hopeful that he’ll take his working relationship with Adidas to the next level. During an interview with Hood By Air founder Shayne Oliver conducted by the Yeezy creator for Interview Magazine, West revealed that he’s been “fighting” and having numerous conversations with the streetwear brand to make him their creative director.
Before his confession, which was brought up during a conversation surrounding Oliver’s 2017 collaboration with Helmut Lang, West says he believes Oliver is the strongest designer out of the “entire crew” that came up with them.
“You are the most deserving of one of these positions,” he says to Oliver. “So it’s interesting to me when you get these situations, because, like, I’ve been fighting and struggling and arguing and talking and having conversation after conversation about being the creative director of Adidas.”
Through his partnership with Adidas, the Yeezy brand is reportedly worth $1.5 billion. Via Twitter in 2018, West called his Yeezy brand the “unicorn” of the fashion industry.
“I am currently the single highest paid person in footwear. That means I make more money on shoes than Michael Jordan,” he wrote in April 2018.
