
To some, today’s International Women’s Day (March 8) consisted of protests and boycotts and for others, working and educating the youth. In the end, music has always found a way to break through any of the aforementioned channels to help bring us a little more inspiration and overall good feels.
In celebration of the holiday, Amazon Music released a list of the most streamed artists on their platform that included tracks from Adele (“Hello”), Rachel Platten (“Fight Song”), Sia (Cheap Thrills), Elle Goulding (“Burn”) and Katy Perry (“Roar”.) There’s also the Top 10 Most Streamed Female Artists list which also included Adele, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift and Megan Trainor.
We couldn’t help but notice the lack of melanin as well as R&B and hip-hop acts. Already taking part in a what many consider to be a male-dominated industry, acts like Erykah Badu, Janelle Monae, Beyonce, Nicki Minaj have created music championing for all women while dominating the Billboard charts with ease.
