Eazy-E was definitely a jack of all trades when it came to business. In hip hop, he was a pioneer. Most can argue he put the West Coast rap scene on the map. Whether it came to assembling the iconic N.W.A collective or debuting his only, but memorable solo album in 1988, Eazy Duz It, it was clear to the world that the former Compton drug dealer was onto something.
With provocative tracks like “F*ck Tha Police,” which garnered nationwide attention (due to the FBI sending warning letters to Ruthless Records) and its parent company—amid the controversy, there was a lesson in those brash lyrics that unfortunately, still is very, very relevant today. In hindsight, Eazy-E left this world with musical artifacts that perhaps will still illustrate this country’s socio-political landscape for decades to come.
But as he started his career being a harsh lyricist and business savvy genius, he tragically exited his life journey, succumbing to AIDS in 1995. Today, marks what would have been Eazy’s (né Eric Wright) 52nd birthday. In honor of his legacy, we compiled a list of some fan-favorite jams.
