50 Cent is hip-hop’s resident prankster. To plug “First Date,” his new single featuring Too Short which was released earlier this week, the Get Rich or Die Tryin’ rapper delves into a low-budget medium: the lyric video. Somewhere in between a legit music video and an illegal YouTube stream of a leaked track, the lyric video has not exactly been a go-to promotional tool for many artists, with the fanbase usually picking up the slack. While a token lyric video consists of the song’s lyrics moving across a stand alone image, usually the track’s album cover art, 50’s is more elaborate, combining film clips that range from comedies like “The Sitter” and “Adventureland,” along with images that sync to the words. However, all the montages keep to the softcore, safe-sex theme of “First Date”‘s lyrics — “Life’s too short to not f— on the first date.” Check out 50 Cent’s lyrics video for “First Date” below. https://youtube.com/watch?v=hO2IrMgBuNY%3Fversion%3D3
