Despite the political turmoil that many Americans and global citizens are currently experiencing, A Tribe Called Quest returned to the music scene to ease your mental worries.
The Queens collective debuted their sixth studio album, We Got It From Here… Thank You 4 Your Service (Nov. 11), which follows their previous 1998 soundscape, The Love Movement. Their current project features lyrical talent from some of hip-hop’s brightest including Kendrick Lamar, Busta Rhymes, Andre 3000, and Anderson .Paak.
The album also serves as a fitting tribute to ATCQ’s fallen member, Malik “Phife Dawg” Taylor, who passed away on Mar. 22, 2016 from diabetic complications. The Trinidadian-American was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes 26 years ago.
In a feature with the New York Times, Q-Tip shared that he’s still coping with the loss of one of the group’s pivotal figures. “I’m gonna be missing him for a while,” he said. “God is in control. And I feel at peace. I feel hopeful. I feel Phife with me.”
