The 20th anniversary of The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill happened at the end of Aug. 2018, but fans are still celebrating the legendary album’s significance in music. Adele recently shared a heartfelt letter she penned to Lauryn Hill in honor of the album’s huge milestone on Wednesday (Aug. 19).
What seemed to spark the open letter was Adele’s attendance at Ms. Hill’s anniversary tour stop in California. “I saw Lauryn Hill in 1999 at Brixton Academy when I was 10 years old. Tonight I saw her play at the Hollywood Bowl. I’ve just turned 30,” she wrote.
The U.K. songstress went on to explain how Hill’s debut album shaped conversations on love and relationships. “What a woman what a record, by far Miseducation is my favorite record of all time,” she added. “Such an honest representation of love and life, I feel I can relate too but also I know there’s elements and levels I never will be able to.”
She concluded her note with a special thank you to Lauryn Hill herself. “Ms. Lauryn Hill was on from in every way possible,” she continued. “Thank you for the record of a life time. Thank you for your wisdom! Thank you for existing. Happy 20th.”
