Adrian Marcel has built himself quite the catalog and resume between the start of his breakout in 2014 with single, “2 AM” and just last week’s release of his debut album, GMFU (Got Me F**ked Up). Between those three years, the Oakland native has managed to collaborate with the likes of Wale, Casie Veggies and Sage The Gemini.
With his debut, he upped the ante even more. With “Mobbin’” set as the album’s single featuring Too $hort, Lil Boosie and M City Jr., it’s also backed by some household producers. Grammy-winning musician and producer Raphael Saadiq hosts as an executive producer, while legends like No I.D. and Deputy act as the thread weaving together the ideal sonic blend of soul, old school and modern R&B melodies that Marcel is no stranger to.
This isn’t the Bay Area artists’ first merry-go-round together. Saadiq also executive produced Marcel’s 7 Days Of Weak mixtape in 2013. He praised Marcel’s talents and work ethic, claiming that labeling Marcel and his mixtape “hot” wouldn’t suffice.
Here’s to being rest-assured that the multi-faceted “drink, love, smoke” feel of the mixtape was translated to Adrian Marcel’s debut album.
