AfroPunk Brooklyn is on the way! The globally-acclaimed music festival announced this year’s lineup on Tuesday (June 2). In a list of over 20 performing artists, among the anticipated performers are Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Kelis, Danny Brown, Sam Dew, Thundercat, Lion Babe and more.
The event will be ticketed this year at an affordable price as well as an earned ticket program titled AfroPunk Army. Volunteer activities and projects for the youth shape the program’s mission with the hopes that it will create awareness and support for New York communities. Landscaping and social media promotions are listed as sample projects for the program.
Grace Jones will also collaborate for the AfroPunk Fancy Dress Ball, the first annual fundraising event for the AfroPunk Global Initiative project. The project aims for rounded representation of people of color in several societal facets and diversity in the media. The AfroPunk Fancy Dress Ball will take place on Aug. 24 at Commodore Barry Park while the actual festival will take place for two days prior on Aug. 22 and 23. It will then move to Atlanta in October for another two-day festival in the fall.
