AfroPunk fans, prepare yourselves. The festivities start now. The performers to hit the stage at this year’s Battle of the Bands in Brooklyn will include Aligns, Oshun, the VeeVees, Juggernaut, War Party and RAAA.
These groups hold spots on a list of 16 bands that will take on one of Brooklyn’s hugest stages at the Beast of Bourbon on July 10. In addition to the Brooklyn spot, competitions will be held in Philadelphia and Atlanta. The bands will have the opportunity to pick which city they want to rep, then compete for a set in AfroPunk’s 2015 festivities, where performers such as Lenny Kravitz and Lauryn Hill are expected to headline.

The critically-acclaimed celebration has seen concertgoer numbers of over 60,000 last year, and is even offering a ticket earning program for the youth this year. In its third annual matchup event, Battle of the Bands has proven successful for some, such as the youthful Brooklyn-based rock band The Skins who signed with Rick Rubens and Unlocking the Truth, who signed with Sony. The show goes down at 8 p.m. with doors opening at 7 p.m.
