Akon is once again ready for his close-up.
The singer-songwriter-producer and founder of Konvict Muzik and Kon Live Distribution labels is gearing up for the release of his fourth solo effort Stadium. The Senegalese performer calls the late summer set his most energetic project to date.
“We are bringing the stadium to your living room,” Akon told VIBE of his upcoming album. “It’s high-energy dance music mixed with a little international sounds and hip hop. It’s a whole new sound.”
Akon has already chosen Stadium’s first single, the provocative “Nosey Neighbors,” which is bound to raise a few eyebrows. “The concept of the song is I’m in a condo, I have binoculars, I’m looking through this window and I see this girl and she’s looking extremely incredible and she’s undressing,” Akon laughs. “I’m kind of spying on her, but I’m not quite sure if she knows it because she never looks at my direction. Everything she’s doing is taunting me to keep me watching. The record is crazy. This one is an up-tempo dance club record with hard hip hop drums in it.”
As for Lady Gaga’s upcoming album—another high profile project that has been keeping Akon quite busy—the ubiquitous pop rebel’s next release is finally coming together.
“I think it’s going to shock some people,” Akon says of his fashion-forward protégé’s under-wraps release. “She’s been recording a lot of it while on tour. Gaga always goes against the grain and this one will be no different.” —Keith Murphy
