Alicia Keys brought her ‘Set The World On Fire’ Tour to her hometown NYC last night. Following a set by sultry opener Miguel, Ms. Keys took control of the sold-out Madison Square Garden. She looked simply radiant, glowing in a red bodysuit and hip-hugging pants and performed from her seemingly endless repertoire of hits like “Karma,” “You Don’t Know My Name,” to “Fallin.’”
While most singers go through multiple wardrobe changes, Keys went through several piano changes including a white baby grand. She infused movement to her show, which she’s usually not had, by adding good looking male dancers to accompany her on several songs.
Longtime backup singer and friend Jermaine Paul joined her for the duet “Diary,” which she reworked with portions of Ready for the World’s classic “Love You Down.” Maxwell then surprised the women in the audience (and
nearly sent them into tears) with his appearance during the sexy duet “Fire We Make.”
The strangest and most unexpected cameo of the night though, came from none other than DMX. With the weather getting warmer, Alicia stopped the show to reminisce about songs that she loved in the summertime. Out of
nowhere, Dark Man X and Key’s hubby Swizz Beatz burst onto the stage in their throwback camouflage to perform split-second renditions of “Ruff Ryders Anthem” and “Up In Here.” X gave the relaxed R&B show his own
60-second jolt, hyping up half the audience and confusing the hell out of the other. At the end, X and Alicia hugged while Swizz fanned them out of respect. “Tonight is a celebration of life and love,” Alicia said at one point.
Life, love and DMX.
