Andre 3000 excitingly made moves recently following his sought-after OutKast tour leading up to his return to the small screen on season two of ABC’s hit drama, American Crime. Now, the ATLien is planing to turn his focus back to the music, which began with his surprise collaboration with Erykah Badu.
The replay-worthy melody “Hello” was featured on Badu’s But You Caint Use My Phone project, which hosted a soothing vocal appearance from 3 Stacks. In a recent interview with Billboard, Mr. 3000 spoke about how that captivating partnership on wax came about.
“Our son Seven and I were trying to figure out songs that could help her — songs that were related to the subject of the mixtape: phones. We came across [The Isley Brothers’ 1974 cover of Todd Rundgren’s] “Hello, It’s Me.” Ron Isley repeats the phrase “hello, hello” as if he was answering the phone,” he said. “I told Erykah, ‘You should make this into a new song and get somebody to rap on it.’ She was like, ‘Well, you should rap on it!’ I’m happy it happened. It was a great reunion, because I don’t think people have heard a song from us in ages.”
On the topic of his own personal music, Andre revealed that he’s always recording in the studio, but it’s just a matter of placing his finger on what type of music he’d like to do in the near future. “I’d like to put out some kind of music project, but we’ll see,” he said. While on set for a film or television show, the “Roses” rapper said it “puts you in the place where you’re fiending to do music.”
