As the announcement that Queens’ infamous Linden Blvd will be renamed Malik “Phife Dawg” Taylor Way circulates, hip-hop fans from East to West are rejoicing.
Cali’ duo, Audio Push, are just one of the many who have been deeply inspired by A Tribe Called Quest. Today (Aug 1), VIBE debuts their new video for “Check the Vibe” — a tribute record to the legendary hip-hop group.
In the Christopher Scholar-directed visuals, Oktane and Price go back back in time to when young emcees and DJs used the dig in the crates for beats while b-boys got it on outside record shops. ATCQ’s “Check The Rhyme” inspires the flow on the Hit-Boy-produced track.
“The album’s on the way, so we wanted to get the people ready. We wanted to give our generation a feel of how hip-hop videos felt to us when videos were all over TV. Real dancing, and all levels of lifestyle.- The music is of course a tribute to ATCQ. RIP Phife,” Audio Push said via email.
