A chipper August Alsina made his way to the 2015 BET Awards (June 28) to not only show that he’s in good spirits following his hospital stint last September, but tease his sophomore project and drop off his video for “Hip Hop.”

Directed by Payne Lindsey, the visual shows the Nawlins native posted in his hometown, singing of hope for better days. While the Testimony cut from his 2014 major label debut doesn’t pay tribute to his R&B home, he explained how genre labels don’t matter to VIBE last summer.
“To me, hip-hop is your background, your lifestyle, your come-up, your struggle. All of that over a boom bop,” he said. “I talk about the same shit, if not more, in my music than half these motherf**kin’ rappers.”
