Past BET Hip-Hop Awards cyphers have earned spitters respect for their lyrical prowess in ways some of their most popular singles could not. This year will hopefully prove to be no different, as the network rounds up a mix of OGs and newcomers. Featuring the stylings of long-revered rappers such as Black Thought, Erick Sermon, Rahzel, Keith Murray and Redman, the 2015 edition stacked a full hand of seasoned vets. They also tapped DJ Scratch, Doug E. Fresh, Questlove and DJ Premier for good measure.
Youngins were not left out of this year’s cypher however, as the platform provides fresh faces such as Vince Staples, Casey Veggies, Raury and Tink with a place to display their skills. The cypher also features actor, composer, playwright and lyricist Lin-Manuel Miranda, as well as actors/rappers Daveed Diggs and Albe Back, the latter of whom is most well-known for his role as “Brooklyn” in ATL. Other notable names include Charles Hamilton, Joyner Lucas and King Mez.
