In a day full of heavy news, a gleam of sunshine has come across social media: Beyonce has reunited with her father and former manager Mathew Knowles.
The family reunion was first documented on Mama Tina’s Instagram account last week when Bey performed in Houston for her Formation world tour. The singer officially shared the photo from their meet up on her own page earlier today (May 26) She also posted an adorable batch of photos of her, Blue Ivy and Mr. Knowles enjoying a few laughs.
The entertainer addressed her relationship with her father in the visual album LEMONADE. During Accountability, Bey recites Warsan Shire’s words about a woman’s view of her deceitful partner and the likeness to her father.
“Did he bend your reflection?,” she said. “Did he make you forget your own name? Did he convince you he was a god? Did you get on your knees daily? Do his eyes close like doors? Are you a slave to the back of his head? Am I talking about your husband or your father?”
When it comes to the genre-bending “Daddy Lessons,” Knowles doesn’t believe the song is entirely about him. Speaking with WatchLoud in April, the businessman says he’s aware of his impression he’s made on Bey and Solange.
“My kids, they take a lot from me and I always come from an intellectual place,” he said. “When I listen to ‘Daddy Lessons’ – and Beyoncé wrote me a song on her first album called “Daddy” [as well] – but when I hear this song [‘Daddy’s Lessons’] I’m sure that some of that, hopefully, I inspired her. But am I sure, no.”‘
Beyonce and Knowles ended their business relationship in 2009 after numerous mismanagement rumors. Before managing her solo career, he was the manager of the multi-platinum girl group Destiny’s Child. The singer went on to create Parkwood Entertainment, which houses herself and a few budding artists like sisters Chloe and Halle Bailey, singer Sophie Beem and Houston femcee Ingrid.
All in all, it looks like everyone is embracing forgiveness and growth.
