Clothing company Abercrombie and Fitch is suing Beyoncé Knowles over her upcoming women’s fragrance line.
The singer’s perfume, allegedly called Sasha Fierce, has ignited Abercrombie to file a cease-and-desist, then federal suit for trademark infringement over the fragrance’ name.
In 2002, Abercrombie begin selling a men’s fragrance called Fierce, which retailers spray all over their stores. Abercrombie claims Beyoncé’s perfume can likely cause “confusion.”
Beyoncé has described her fragrance as “an alluring and sophisticated fragrance; one that’s reflective of my inner power.” She has most recently released the Sasha Fierce clothing line in department stores. The perfume and clothing line is reportedly based off her 2008 album I am … Sasha Fierce. But according to her fragrance maker Coty, the same company responsible for Jennifer Lopez’s Glow perfume, the official name of Beyoncé’s fragrance won’t be revealed until it’s 2010 launch.
Beyoncé announced this week her plans to drop the fragrance in the spring. –Linda Hobbs
