Hot off the heels of her fire feature on Beyonce’s “Formation,” Big Freedia is back in the news, this time, for something sure to make you roll your eyes.
The Queen of Bounce was slated to have a show at The Dollar Box Showroom in Mississippi on Feb. 12, but it was reportedly canceled due to the potential “gyrating” that would have occurred, according to NOLA.com.
The site reads, “Club owner Ben Shemper said that roughly two weeks ago, he got a phone call from a State Alcohol Beverage Control officer who said that based on YouTube videos of past Big Freedia performances, he felt the show would be in violation of Mississippi codes.” Shemper also reportedly said that the word “gyrating” was mentioned.
“He made it sound like it was some kind of strip show or whatever.”
Freedia was none too pleased with the show’s cancellation, taking to her Twitter page to write “crazy this happens in 2016.” Might we add, Mississippi is the home state of Elvis Presley, who was known for gyrating on stage during his prime.
