Billboard has announced its inaugural R&B/Hip-Hop Power Players Event. The award show will focus on honoring the artists who are “driving, influencing, and guiding the industry,” and will operate on an invite-only basis, with the top 100 artists and executives driving hip-hop culture forward in attendance.
This year’s event will honor Meek Mill with the R&B/Hip-Hop Power Players Impact Award, for the courage he demonstrated during his battle with the American justice system, as well as his 140 million streams and multiple Top 10 releases on the Billboard 200 charts. The award is set to be presented by CNN’s Van Jones.
Also among those to be honored are Kevin “Coach K” Lee and Pierre “Pee” Thomas, the COO and CEO of Quality Control Records. The two will be presented with the Executive of the Year Award for their success with Migos, Lil Baby, City Girls and Stefflon Don. The pair will receive their award from the president of Motown Records, Ethiopia Habtemariam.
The event will take place at Legacy Records in New York City on Sept. 27 at 7:00 p.m. Other guests scheduled to appear B.o.B, BlocBoy JB, Jidenna, Rich The Kid, Playboi Carti and Taylor Bennett, with music by DJ Clark Kent.
