Bobby Shmurda is fighting back. The “Shmoney Dance” rapper has slapped the NYPD with a lawsuit for false arrests on drug and weapon charges.
The New York native’s legal troubles date all the way back until 2011, when he was arrested for a number of charges in both Manhattan and the Bronx, including possession of illegal substances and weapons.
However, the rapper claims that while he was hanging out at a friend’s home in Brooklyn in June 2014, the cops knocked on the door before illegally entering. “When one of the occupants opened the door a slight bit to see who was there, Officer Douglas Corso and other police officers kicked in the door and illegally entered the residence without a search warrant,” according to the Brooklyn Federal Documents obtained by the New York Daily News.
At the time, New York officers claimed he was trying to hide a handgun under the couch, but Bobby – whose real name is Ackquille Pollard, claims that neither the gun nor drugs belonged to him. And while the police allegedly “ransacked” the home, they chanted the lyrics to his single, the court documents say. The rapper claims as a result, he’s suffered from permanent “nervous shock and mental anguish.”
The NYPD and the City Law Department have not commented about the lawsuit. The NYDN also states that Bobby Shmurda is currently free on $2 million bail, but his lawyer has yet to confirm that detail.
UPDATE:
In a statement issued to VIBE, Bobby Shmurda’s lawyer, Alex Spiro, confirms that the Brooklyn native “has not been released from jail.”
