Brianna Cash is just one of the many voices that the city of Philadelphia has nurtured. Historically, Philly has produced some of the most soulful voices in modern R&B — acts like Boyz II Men, Jill Scott and Musiq Soulchild are just a few — but there’s something about the raw emotion and honesty in Brianna’s lyrics that separate her from the rest.
Just a few weeks ago, I caught her live show at the Underground Arts and have had her “Handsome” single on repeat ever since. While she gears up to release new songs, add her heartrending song to your playlist and thank me later.
“I WROTE THIS SONG WITH MY PRODUCER POP WANSEL AFTER MY BOYFRIEND KYLE (AKA HULITHO) PASSED AWAY,” said the singer about the song when it was released in 2016. “IT’S ABOUT THE LAST TIME KYLE AND I WENT OUT TO EAT. WE WERE AT IHOP FRIED OFF OF WEED BROWNIES. IT’S A COOL WAY TO REMEMBER HIM.”
