Although she’s had an incredible 2017 and 2018, Cardi B is ineligible for a ‘Best New Artist’ nomination at the 2019 Grammy Awards. According to the Recording Academy, any artist who was previously nominated for a separate award at a ceremony is not eligible for the Best New Artist honor.
Post Malone, whose album Beerbongs and Bentleys will reportedly be nominated in the pop album category and not hip-hop/rap, is also reportedly not eligible for the category despite having a massively successful year of his own.
In a vote earlier this month with music industry heavyweights connected to the ceremony, they concluded that success from his 2016 album Stoney and his two hit songs “Congratulations” and “White Iverson” in 2015 made him past “new artist” status.
“Malone lost in a vote by music industry players — ranging from executives to producers to publicists — and will not compete for the coveted honor,” reports Billboard.
The first round of Grammy nominee voting begins next week (Oct. 17), and there will be eight nominees in the BNA category, not five. Who are you looking forward to seeing get a possible nomination? Sound off in the comments below.
