The 61st Grammys nominations are here, and hip-hop is dominating the list. The nominees were announced on Friday (Dec. 7) during a live stream on CBS with Janelle Monae, Alessia Cara, Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, and Shawn Mendes.
Drake, Kendrick Lamar, and Cardi are leading the pack with the most nominations. Cardi B’s Invasion of Privacy, Janelle Monae’s Dirty Computer, Post Malone’s Beerbongs & Bentleys, H.E.R.’s self-titled album, and Black Panther: The Album were nominated for the top category of Album of the Year.
Additionally, Record of the Year is welcoming some familiar faces, including Cardi B, (“I Like It”), Childish Gambino (“This Is America”), Drake (“God’s Plan”), Kendrick Lamar and SZA (“All the Stars”), and Post Malone and 21 Savage (“Rockstar”)
As you’ll see, the nominations pool for each category is much bigger than previous years. Due to a new policy, the each category has eight nominees instead of the original five.
