“The ‘Money Bag’ rapper was awarded the certificate for “Cardi B” on December 11 by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office,” reports the site. “Acquiring the “Cardi B” trademark to be used for entertainment services’ was no easy feat for the hip-hop star, who originally filed documents in February 2016.”
The Grammy nominee, who states her stage name was inspired by the liquor brand Bacardi, was experiencing issues with filing for the rights to the name for quite some time. Some of these issues include the court suspending and even abandoning her file, but her team put in work and was able to get it done.
This is among one of the many high points of the rapper’s year. Not only is she officially the owner of her stage name, she also became a mother in July to a baby girl named Kulture. She also scored two more number one songs on the Billboard Hot 100 (“I Like It” and “Girls Like You” with Maroon 5), the only female rapper in history to have three number ones.
