The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office reportedly denied Cardi B’s quest to trademark “okurrr.” The government rejected the request because the catch phrase is categorized as a “widely-used commonplace expression,” according to documents obtained by The Blast.
The website reported that the USPTO determined that the phrase “does not function as a trademark or service mark to indicate the source of applicant’s goods and/or services.” Officials from the USPTO supposedly cited the Kardashians use of the phrase as an example of it being a common expression. Cardi has said in the past that she added “okurrr” to her lexicon after hearing Khloe Kardashian use it on T.V.
Cardi didn’t create “okurrr,” but she definitely made it more popular and was unapologetic in her plan to capitalize off of the slogan. All is not lost though, the Bronx native still has a chance to argue her case, The Blast reports.
Earlier in the year, the Grammy winner clapped back at backlash and explained her trademark filing.
While her plan to monetize the slogan seems to be derailed, the “Money” rapper’s pockets aren’t hurting for extra coins. In other Cardi news, a fan recently gifted the 26-year-old recording artist with a $20,000 Birkin bag for showing up at his birthday party.
