Most artists abide by the rules and play things safe. They avoid the wretched fashion faux pas with the help of celebrity stylists, and look to the current radio format for the direction of their next single.
Cee Lo Green is not one of those artists. Dressed head to toe in white well after Labor Day, and fresh off bringing profanity back to the Billboard charts with help from his lead single “Fuck You,” the eclectic singer recently ushered in his third solo LP, Lady Killer. VIBE snatched a few minutes with the Goodie Mob member who named dropped a few of his favorite cuts from the album.
“’Bright Lights, Big City’ and ‘Bodies’ are two of my favorite songs from the album. My man Ben Allen produced ‘Bright Lights’ and Salaam Remi did ‘Bodies’,” Cee Lo tells VIBE. “I was in Miami with Salaam for about a month. Well, actually about an hour outside of Miami. Just getting up every morning and taking that road trip to his home studio stays in my mind when I think about how I recorded this album.”
The raspy voiced crooner also reassured fans that a new Gnarls Barkley project with DJ Danger Mouse is in early stages of development.
“It’s tentative, but we’re definitely going to do another album sometime next year. The fans want it and I know they miss it at the moment,” Cee Lo says with a grin. “I’ll give it to them again.”
