Chance The Rapper’s Twitter fingers got to walkin’on (Mar. 8) after he caught wind of some not-so-pleasant comments Spike Lee made about him due to the rapper’s criticism of the film Chi-Raq. The director spoke to students at Northwestern University and called Chance a “fraud.”
“He puts himself up as a speaker of the people, but that means you have to put truths that you see,” said Lee. “That doesn’t mean you can pick and choose what you talk about.”
The 22-year-old took to the social media site to further lambast the film, calling it “sexist,” “racist,” and an “offensive unsuccessful flop.” He also called Lee a “liar” and “lame,” and threatened to released audio of him “begging me to be in that trash a** movie.”
Chance said that that Chi-Raq was not an accurate portrayal of Chicago and its people, calling it “problematic,” and added that it did not do enough to portray the issue of post-traumatic stress disorder that many Chi-town natives face.
