Donald Glover is having a magnificent 2016. He was the creator and star of the hit show, Atlanta, which just wrapped its first season. He hosted a three-day musical event in Joshua Tree, Calif. called Pharos and was also cast in an upcoming Star Wars movie. Now, the musician known as Childish Gambino could gift us with new music by the year’s end.
Reports say that the Great Gambino is releasing an album titled Awaken, My Love, which has an expected release date of Dec. 2. This information is all thanks to a member of the Reddit community, who was told at his local F.Y.E. that new material was to drop from the Renaissance Man.
“I was at my local F.Y.E today and noticed this on the chalkboard for future releases,” the post read. “I asked the cashier what he knew about that Gambino date and all he said was “it’s a new album coming I guess. Thats all we have written down.” The source also posted the picture of the chalkboard with the information to Imgur. Amazon International and All Music also have the album’s title and release date on their websites.
Let’s hope that this is true! If so, this would be Childish Gambino’s first album since 2013’s Because The Internet, which spawned the Grammy-nominated single, “3005.”
UPDATE: 11/10/16 9:00 P.M. EST
Looks like the speculation is true. The artist confirmed the news on Thursday (Nov. 10) by dropping the refreshing and tribal single, “Me and Your Mama.” The album will showcase his sonic evolution by bringing forth some of his biggest funk, rock and soul influences.
Gambino showcased the album’s artwork and tracklisting on his Twitter account.
