During a lengthy interview with HOT 97’s Peter Rosenberg, Childish Gambino touched on topics of street cred in hip-hop, never ending Drake comparisons and parallels and more. The Atlanta rapper spoke about the barriers he has to get over in order to gain respect from certain fans, bringing up Drake by saying, “Drake doesn’t get asked, ‘Are you hard enough?’ or anything like that even though Drake’s life is really my life.”
Gambino didn’t hold anything back in his conversation with Rosenberg, mentioning Eric & Jeff Rosenthal (more popularly known as “ItsTheReal”) for testing his credibility in interviews. He says he’s cool with them, regardless. He mentioned that even if he’s the guy in the “grandma sweater”, he’s still going to be the same guy when he visits his grandmother in the Bronx, who doesn’t exactly live in the greatest of neighborhoods.
Near the end of the interview, Gambino discussed the differences between his rap career and his comedic background and also reveals that his newest mixtape, the one following the release of his 2013 album Because The Internet will drop in a couple of weeks.
