All it took was one YouTube cover of Beyonce’s “Pretty Hurts,” to catch the Queen Bey’s eye, and finally with their first debut track and video, “Drop,” the singing, sister duo, Chloe x Halle have captivated the eyes of many.
The duo first gained traction in 2013, with their “Pretty Hurts” cover, followed by a number of uploaded songs from artists like Rihanna and Ariana Grande. Since their early success on YouTube, which gained them more than a million views, the girls were sought out and signed to Beyonce’s startup music label, Parkwood Entertainment. And now they’ve put aside the covers to release their debut single, “Drop.”
The alluring single and video fully capture their indie and folk sense of style, taking place in a green, hilly ranch where Django Unchained was filmed, according to MTV. The captivating video draws its audience in as the beauties sing over a booming bass. The haunting effect is matched with their stylish outfits and choreographed dance moves. And to prove that the track is a certifiable jam for the radio, the duo come correct with a brief rap.
Their debut is off the heels of their recent opening for First Lady, Michelle Obama’s keynote at South By Southwest. With backings like these, it’s quite possible these girls will become the heirs to the throne soon enough.
