In a case of art imitating life, an upcoming episode of NBC’s Law & Order: Special Victims Unit seems to draw from the real-life domestic violence incident between Chris Brown and Rihanna in 2009.
The episode — titled “Funny Valentine” and set to air Wednesday, February 27 at 9 p.m. — will revolve around two young VIPs whose relationship is marred by violence. The promo features a popular music couple where the man is an abuser and the woman keeps going back.
The episode description reads:
A promising singer is brutally attacked by her boyfriend, a popular hip-hop star. ADA Barba (guest star Raul Esparza) works to build a case, but the victim refuses to aid the prosecution and, despite Detective Benson’s (Mariska Hargitay) best efforts, continues to put herself in danger. The case quickly spirals into a media circus, perpetrated by both the defendant and his uncompromising attorney (guest star Jeffrey Tambor).”
A Law & Order rep told Entertainment Weekly: “As always, SVU is fiction.”
Set to make a guest appearance on the episode are Perez Hilton and Wendy Williams. Get your popcorn ready.
