Ciara and Russell Wilson tied the knot in a lavish, star studded wedding overseas. The castle in London held over a billion dollars worth of star power when some of the biggest names in entertainment witnessed the two’s nuptials, but the beautiful landscape wasn’t the original location of the private affair.
The couple originally wanted the wedding to take place in North Carolina last month, where Russell played both baseball and football at North Carolina State University, but after the state passed its anti-LGBTQ law, they opted out.
“I did the whole thing — three times,” Weiss told TheKnot. “They were first getting married in North Carolina, but they called it off due to the transgender bathroom laws.”
Back in March, North Carolina Governor Pat McCroy signed the controversial House Bill 2, the Public Facilities Privacy & Security Act, which prevented transgender individuals from using the bathroom with the sex they identify with. It also took anti-discrimination protections away from the LGBTQ community.
Due to the law, the Wilsons aren’t the only ones to have a change of plans on hosting an event in the state. A few celebrities canceled their concerts for the month and the NBA league moved the 2017 All-Star Game to another venue outside the state.
