Ciara continues to crank out exciting new material and visuals, and her latest single “Freak Me” is no different. The track, released today (Aug. 10), is an AfroBeat-inspired uptempo banger featuring Tekno, an artist hailing from Nigeria.
“‘FreakMe’ Ft @TeknoOfficial out this Friday! Been dying to share this with you! Can’t wait! #AfroBeats #AfroWave#FreakMeFriday,” wrote CiCi in an Instagram post to accompany the announcement. In the short clip, she and a group of dancers are performing African-tinged hip-hop choreography to the new single. The clip was reportedly shot in Soweto, Johannesburg.
We’re hopeful that this string of new singles signals a larger project in the near future; the last album Ciara released was 2015’s Jackie.
It appears that this era of Ciara’s career is all about experimentation. Her first single “Level Up” implements elements of club music, and it samples DJ Telly Tellz’s “F**k It Up Challenge” song. “Level Up” also comes with a remix featuring her “Lose Control” collaborators Missy Elliott and Fat Man Scoop.
“Level Up”‘s music video featuring the ReQuest Dance Crew inspired a viral dance challenge titled the #LevelUpChallenge, which has seen celebrities and fans alike participating in the fun challenge.
