JT and Yung Miami, known widely as City Girls, have delivered their debut studio album promptly titled, Girl Code.
With production from Murda Beatz (Drake’s “In my My Feelings”), Ben Billion$ (The Weeknd, Travis Scott), Audio Jones (with “Swerve” and “Clout Chasin'”) and Rico Love (“Twerk”), the girls continue to play to their strengths with boastful raps and clever puns. The lead single “Twerk” is tweaked on the album to include a verse from their Quality Control sister Cardi B while Jacquees and Lil Baby also deliver guest verses.
JT, who is currently serving time for aggravated identity theft, opens the album with “Free JT” with Mami promising to shut the game down when she returns. “I wanna send a shoutout to all my City Girls and City Boys Be holdin’ me the f**k down, F**k, when I come home-Period, game over,” she says. JT is expected to be released from jail on March 20, 2019.
Speaking with VIBE before her sentence, JT hinted towards Girl Code and how it will remain true to their roots. “For our next project, I just feel like it’s time to go all the way, show out full talent,” she said.
“With Period, I was thinking all the time, we have to remain ourselves all the time, ‘cause ‘F**k dat N***a’ was a fun track. So keep it fun but still put some serious songs in it, but keep it fun. Now that we have everyone’s attention it’s like, we can go all the way with it.”
The girls released their debut mixtape Period in May, with the singles “Not Ya Main,” and “I’ll Take Ya Man.” But their global glow up would be their guest stint on Drake’s “In My Feelings” in June.
