Coachella might be coming to Queens. Okay, maybe not Coachella, but her little cousin is definitely looking to make a debut in 2016.
According to The Daily News, producers behind the wildly popular music festival have quietly been in talks with the city to hold a concert at Flushing Meadows Corona Park next June, which basically means for Brooklyn natives trying to venture to the Q-borough, the L Train is already not working.
Tentatively titled “Panorama” the fest would be largest Queens has had seen since 1964’s World’s Fair, and would take place just two weeks after Governor’s Ball.
An economic study of the potential festival calculates if Panorama does indeed touch down in the borough of Nas and LL, the city could stand to make a smooth $40 million, which is great an all, but the borough President Melinda Katz has a few reservations.
“While we encourage public events of any scale that enhance our borough, this proposal appears to raise significant concerns, especially the precedent it would potentially set,” Katz said, noting that Flushing Meadows Corona Park has never been used by a for-profit company for a charged-admission event.
No word on the exact date of the fest, how long it will be, and which acts will perform. We’re going to have to wait and see if this festival actually comes to fruition, because if it does, New Yorkers can be certain they’ll have the luxury of hearing their favorite morning mantra “There’s train traffic ahead. We apologize for the inconvenience” throughout the duration of the fest.
