Nelly isn’t allowing his rap career to stop him from entering new genres of music and try new things. The Country Grammar artist is trading in his snapback for a cowboy hat.
In an interview with Billboard, Nelly’s manager, J. Erving revealed Nelly parted ways with Universal and as a independent artist will be working on his Country EP titled Heartland.
“He’s a free agent on the label side now, and is working on a country-based Heartland EP, which should be really interesting,” Erving said. “He may be one of the first hip-hop artists to jump into that space in an authentic way with Florida Georgia Line and Tim McGraw, so we think he has an opportunity to grow that base even more.”
Nelly isn’t stepping into the Country domain with no experience. The St. Louis resident collaborated with Tim McGraw on the single “Over and Over” and then landed at the top of the charts with Florida Georgia Line on the single “Cruise” (remix)
Do you, Nelly. Do. You.
