More than a decade after their last album, De La Soul is in the throes of their well deserved victory lap as And The Anonymous Nobody has landed at No. 1 on the Billboard Rap Albums Chart.
The trio leaned on the love of fans and hip-hop purists alike to fund their latest musical LP. Raising more than $600,000 in donations, making the group’s project the second highest Kickstarter campaign in the site’s history.
ATAA is also being heralded as the group’s most eclectic effort, featuring collaborations from Snoop Dogg, Jill Scott, Ursher Baby Little Dragon and 2 Chainz. The 17-track independent record was released Aug. 26 and landed at No. 2 on Billboard’s Independent Albums chart and just missed the top 10 mark on Billboard’s Hot 200 chart placing at no. 12.
Either, cheers to De La.
