Hip hop trio De La Soul has collaborated with Kickstarter on a campaign that’ll include fans and provide more support for their eighth studio album.
Fans have an opportunity to get involved on Kickstarter by making a donations and receive rewards in the process. Some on the rewards include: shopping with De La Soul, De La Soul decorated USB flash drives, an exclusive album track only for Kickstarter backers, autographed handwritten lyrics for a De La Soul song of the backer’s choice, or an original Gold Record plaque that was awarded to 3 Feet High And Rising.
In addition to rewards, the hip-hop trio plans to give fans a new sound that will signify the maturation of their musical talents as the “modern fathers of hip hop,” sonically using sampling techniques. The album is expected to feature artists like 2 Chainz, David Byrne of The Talking Heads, and Swedish electronic band, Little Dragon, among others who will be revealed closer to the release date.
Although there are some new elements like blending funk, bossa nova, jazz, rock, and country/western sound to De La Souls music in this album, the trio will still stick to some of their known works like “Devil Wears Candy.” Official recording is slated to take place in April.
