When Dee-1 stepped on the scene with his “Sallie Mae Back” at the top of the year, he knew the masses would relate to feeling financially strapped post-graduation and awaiting the day they’d be debt free. What he didn’t know was that his musical celebration of that last loan payment would evolve into a college tour sponsored by the same student loan company he name-dropped.
The New Orleans native (and former middle school math teacher) has teamed up with them to launch the Knowledge For College Tour, where the main goal is to get kids to understand why they should go to college. His first stops on the tour, which kicked off this week (Oct. 10), were Woodward High School and Hughes STEM High School in Cincinnati and Waverly Senior High School in Lansing, Mich.
In addition to providing personal tips and words of empowerment, the Louisiana State University-grad will also been handing out various $5,000 scholarships to lucky “future graduates” along the way. Watch the below video to find out more about the tour and follow along on his Instagram to see the schools he’ll visit next.
