The marathon truly continues. Nipsey Hussle’s plans to restructure the shopping plaza where The Marathon Clothing store stands are now under early development.
On Thursday (Aug 1), Lauren London shared the news with fans as a notice to the public on her Instagram account. A gate was placed over the plaza to begin building the Nipsey Hussle Tower, which will also serve as an ode to the rapper’s rich legacy.
Nipsey, born Ermias Asghedom, acquired The Marathon Clothing store with business partner David Gross in 2017. He would later go on to own the entire plaza, a place where the rapper sold his music early in his career.
Uproxx notes the plaza would be replaced with a residential tower. Flipping gentrification on its head, the tower would cater to those who are already living in the area with affordable rates. Retail and dining shops would also be built to feed into Nipsey’s goal of building financial freedom to the neighborhood.
The flagship store closed its doors earlier this summer, but fans have continued to support the brand online. KTLA reports a chain link fence also covers the plaza, replacing hundreds of candles and memorabilia created by fans for the late rapper. With the area becoming a prime location for tributes, the action seemed to be done in an effort to preserve the area.
