Next month, Sean “Diddy” Combs will be able to add another honor to his already glowing collection of prestigious awards.
The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers plans on honoring the music industry mogul and innovator with the ASCAP Founders Award, which is known as the “most prestigious” award given to songwriters and composers, who have influenced the music industry as well as their peers in new and innovative ways.
Diddy, upon receiving the news of this honor, stated “To be recognized for my contributions to music by ASCAP, an organization that represents music creators, is a true honor. All I wanted to do was make people dance and hopefully inspire others to never settle for anything but their best.”
Past recipients of the Founders Award have been musical pioneers such as Stevie Wonder, Dr. Dre, Smokey Robinson and Berry Gordy, Jr. Back in 1998, the ASCAP awarded Diddy with the Golden Note Award, which recognized him for his extraordinary career milestones. Diddy has also won the ASCAP Rhythm and Soul Songwriter of the Year four times.
The 24th Annual ASCAP Rhythm and Soul awards will be held on June 24th, 2011. The invite-only ceremony will be at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles. Performances have yet to be announced. —Tyler McDermott
