Legendary producers Swizz Beatz and Just Blaze got together on Friday night (Feb. 24) to go head to head for a once-in-a-lifetime DJ battle at an undisclosed location in NYC. The duo went back and forth mixing their extensive catalogs of bangers for more than two hours
The clash was hosted by Hot 97’s Ebro Darden, and the room which ended up filling out more and more as the battle went on — including a visit from Busta Rhymes. Just and Swizz began by chopping up old school classics like “Pump Me Up” and “Big Beat,” before getting into their array of hits from the early 2000s.
You might remember Kanye West and Swizz sparring against each other at Hot 97 Summer Jam back in 2007. Give that classic footage a look below — it’s a breath of fresh air and a reminder of the aggressive mentality the rap was built on.
Swizz mashup of Freeway’s “Rock The Mic” gave him the early lead, but he delivered the finishing blow to secure the win when the crowd erupted after he brought out an unreleased exclusive from industry heavyweights, DMX, Nas and Jay Z. At this point, Swizzy was crownded as the winner.
Rumor has it Timbaland and Pharrell are up next on the battle scene.
