In the midst of being on The High Road tour with Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa, DJ Drama, fresh off a flight, checked in with VIBE on Facebook Live. The Philly native chop it up about his new album, Quality Street Music 2, his experience being among two different generation of artists with Wiz and Snoop, and he introduces his new artist, Lyquin — who’s featured on his lead single, “Wishing”.
The Aphillates co-founder also discussed the positive feedback from fans on his new album. “It’s been great. People love the Lil Wayne intro, we’ve been performing ‘Wishing’, I got my man Lyquin with me and we’ve been able to rock out. The response has been crazy,” said Drama.
Drama then proceeded to elaborate on why he signed the Washington, D.C. native, stating that his bars and overall sound is what stood out to him — following the lyrical pedigree of DMV rap stars like Wale and Shy Glizzy.
Lyquin’s mixtape The Other Side was released recently on his Soundcloud, where Drama’s also featured (though the mixtape isn’t an official Gangsta Grillz tape), but the majority of the project is Lyquin going for self.
“I feel like it’s just a blessing to be around someone who’s really shaped the game and [introduced] major artists. Every time I learn something new and I just embrace it,” said Lyquin.
