DJ Premier adds his legendary musical intuition to the remix of his artist Torii Wolf’s debut single “1st.” The OG version of the debut single uses Rakka Iriscience’s vocal sample from “Good As Gone” off Dilated Peoples’ 2014 album Directors Of Photography as the chorus — scattered with his dope scratches. For the remix, Preemo invited Evidence and Rakka to spit a few bars to make their collaborative effort come full circle.
“I changed the arrangement of Torii’s verses and removed the second verse completely” Premier told Mass Appeal. “I added some extra piano harmonies and it fit on the first attempt. I played all of the sounds; including the piano so there are no samples on the original nor the remix. Ev and Rakaa sent me 24 bars in total and I split them up into a sixteen and an eight bar set up. They sounded so good from the original it was a no brainer to get them on the Remix.”

Both Evidence and Rakka were amazed that Preemo chose to rework their song for Wolf’s single, but they were more amazed by final result which they believe is “dark and brilliant–almost haunting.” Recently, Wolf, who is also a superb musician on the drums and guitar, has been locked up in the studio with and the legendary producer adding the final touches to Wolf’s debut album Flow Riiot.
