As the Straight Outta Compton film places the spotlight back on N.W.A., topics surrounding the legendary West Coast’s story have again become topics of discussion. One controversial subject that has resurfaced is the death of Eazy-E. After the resurfacing of an old Suge Knight interview on Jimmy Kimmel, the late rapper’s son revealed that he had always suspected that the former Death Row mogul was behind his father’s contraction of the AIDS virus.
In a recent interview with Vlad TV, N.W.A. member DJ Yella offered his thoughts on the claims.
“You never know,” he said. “All we know is he died from [AIDS]. He had it, he was diagnosed with it, but we don’t know if somebody gave it to him [by] putting it in a syringe [or] whatever. We don’t know. We’ll never know. We just have to accept what it is. It’s over. It was 20 years ago.”
DJ Yella also discussed how he found out the news of Eazy’s diagnosis, noting that rumors were floating before they had been publicized. He revealed that Eazy’s death led to his exit from the music scene, and also spoke on being the only member of N.W.A. to attend Eazy E’s funeral.
“I mean, some people probably just couldn’t take it,” he said. “I don’t know what the reasons are. We never talked about it, even to this day. That subject will never get talked about.”
